Stretch & challenge: Why is this use of information important in H&SC?
Information
Confidentiality means keeping info private and not sharing info about an individual without their knowledge and agreement, even a service users friends and family. This related to info regarding H&SC services and and the records associated with them.
Breaking confidentiality can destroy trust, embarrass the person you are caring for, lead to a loss of dignity or even harm.

When can confidentiality be broken?
> If an individual is at risk of being harmed or killed
> If an individual is at risk of causing harm or death to others
> If an individual is about to break, or has broken, the law
Even in these circumstances, info should only be shared with people who are entitled to it, e.g. members of a multi-disciplinary team, service users and their carers or families, depending on the situation.
